Treatment Alternatives and Diversion (TAD) programs provide treatment and diversion for non-violent adult offenders where substance abuse was a factor in the offender's criminal activity. These programs provide offenders the opportunity to enter diversion or treatment court programs that typically involve drug and/or alcohol abuse treatment, case management, and other risk reduction services. Diverting non-violent offenders into treatment keeps them out of jail and correctional facilities, saving bed space and taxpayer dollars, as well as treating the underlying addiction that may be a contributing factor in the offense and may contribute to future criminal behavior.
